Your mate Wafula Oguttu poses the mother of all questions: How is your fuddy-duddy kayibanda going to achieve the remarkable feat of transforming Uganda from an impoverished, backwater economy where 90% of its hapless citizens survive on less than $1 a month, into bubbly middle class economy in a magical four years? May be the Rwandan grim reaper has tricks down his sleaves he has not revealed nor unleashed for the last 30 years. Please let us in on the secret.

Many people may not believe this. But I know it us true.That in Busoga , where I come from , apart from the small pieces of land on which their homesteads stand, most homes which do not own a bicycle and /or cow or goat , do not own household items worth more than US $100 in total . May be this could be the sad reality in up to 52 % of Busoga homes. So when I heard the President say last week that he plans to make Uganda a middle income country with each citizen including us of Busoga earning at least Shs 3.5m a year, within the next four years, I waited for the "How" he is going to Perform his miracle and I am still waiting. 30 years can not be shorter than 4 years.
