According to Sam Cheptoris, the minister for water and environment, workshops and seminars should be abolished because they are wasteful.

"I attended so many workshops when I was the district chairperson but I did not gain much, I want to advise you that instead of wasting a lot of money on workshops, why don't we provide boreholes for the people, say Karamoja community," Cheptoris said on June ‎24 at their head offices in Luzira as his predecessor Prof Ephraim Kamuntu officially handed over office.

Cheptoris said workshops organized by the ministry consume a lot of money that could be used to develop other sectors.

"I used to hear about the ministry of water and environment when I was at the district and at the workshops organized by the ministry. But now that I am here, I pledge to work with you as I get to know how the ministry works," he said.

Cheptoris, is the MP for Kapchorwa municipality. The minister urged the management of National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) to help poor people get clean water at affordable prices.

Mary Kitutu, the new minister of state for environment and a former employee of the National Environment Management Authority for 13 years, pledged to take the sector to a higher level through team work.

Ephraim Kamuntu, the outgoing minister, said he had many unfinished projects that need a lot of advocacy. He urged Cheptoris to continue where he has stopped.
