{UAH} 5 dead, 11 wounded in shootings over violent weekend in New Orleans

The weekend was an especially bloody one in New Orleans, as six shootings across the city killed five and wounded 11, including two toddlers. One of the deaths was a suicide, in which police said a man killed himself after shooting his friend and refusing to exit his hotel room at the Westin in the French Quarter, prompting an hours-long standoff with the NOPD's SWAT team.

2 men wounded in eastern New Orleans 

According to police, the violence began around 5 p.m. Friday, when a drive-by shooting wounded two men, ages 23 and 66, who were standing in the 4200 block of Dale Street in eastern New Orleans.

2 men shot dead on I-10

Two men were shot dead around 3:25 a.m. Saturday while riding in a tan Toyota Corolla on Interstate-10 eastbound, near Crowder Boulevard, in eastern New Orleans. Police did not provide the victims' ages.  

Resident shot while inside Gentilly home

A 25-year-old man was sitting in the front room of his Gentilly house around 11:10 p.m. Saturday night, when he heard gunshots. He ran to the rear of the house, in the 2400 block of Lavender Street, and realized a bullet struck him in the hand. An ambulance transported him to a hospital in stable condition, police said.

2 men wounded in B.W. Cooper housing development

Two men were shot and wounded around 11:55 p.m. Saturday in the B.W. Cooper housing development. The victims reported being struck near the 3400 block of Erato Street. Someone they knew drove them to the hospital.   

Lafayette man shoots friend at hotel, kills self after police standoff 

On Sunday morning, a trip between four friends from Lafayette turned deadly in the Westin Hotel in the French Quarter. A 20-year-old man, who appeared intoxicated, had shot his 24-year-old friend in the chest around 6:25 a.m., sending the two other friends on the trip, ages 23 and 25, to seek police.

When police arrived at the hotel in the 100 block of Iberville, the gunman refused to come out of his 17th-floor room. The gunman pointed a pistol at officers, prompting a standoff and negotiations with NOPD's SWAT team. 

Around 9:30 a.m., officers entered the hotel room after hearing a gunshot. The gunman had shot himself in the chest, and was pronounced dead at 9:55 a.m., police said. The victim was listed in stable condition Sunday night.

Drive-by kills 2, wounds 5, including toddlers

A drive-by shooting in the Lower 9th Ward Sunday evening killed two and wounded five, including two toddlers, police said. Witnesses told police a dark-colored vehicle with several men inside drove through the 5400 block of Burgundy Street shortly before 8 p.m. and opened fire on several people who were standing in front of a house. 

The shooting killed a man and a 16-year-old girl named Jasmine Anderson, who lived across the street. Police and the coroner's office said Anderson was 18 years old. Two boys, ages 2 and 4, were listed in critical condition Sunday night. A 13-year-old girl and a 37-year-old woman were in stable condition, police said.   

The coroner's office had not released any of the deceased victims' names as of Monday morning.
