South Sudan's armed opposition has welcomed African Union's decision to send a joint force to stabilise the war-torn country, Chimp Corps report.
The African Union summit in Kigali on Tuesday directed that a force comprising troops from Uganda, Kenya, Sudan, Rwanda and Ethiopia be dispatched to South Sudan.
This followed a meeting between President Museveni and United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon in Kigali during which the Ugandan leader called for deployment of a regional force in South Sudan.
Museveni proposed three issues that need to be immediately handled including a regional protection force (in the transition period) for Vice President Riek Machar who does not trust SPLA for his protection, no new fighting in Juba and working towards elections and democracy as soon as possible.
