{UAH} Mr. President. Invest in KCCA and the 14 Municipalities to spur economy growth

Uganda government should do whatever it takes, to fund KCCA greater Kampala development plans. This should be supported with massive support of Min. Lands, Housing and Urban Development investments in all the 14 municipalities infrastructure and utilities growth under World Bank funded USMID to boost local economies.

Uganda basically has no economic issues rather than misplaced policy and investment priorities. If urban centers remain slum like, of course the output will be a slummiest economy – the form of informality that dots the breadth of this country – generating a rarest type of poverty!

Municipalities should be able to provide a comprehensive infrastructure to municipal dwellers; housing, water, electricity, public transport, ICT facilities, fixed land lines, organised commercial and industrial locations for trade and commerce.

These are millions of jobs for Ugandans.

Noted too, Uganda then will be able to consume at least 45% of the agriculture output to sustain rural areas economies!

What does NWSC earn in a month just providing water provisions to dwellers in Kampala? Each municipality should invest in public utilities to propel their economies and the health of dwellers.

That is essence of urbanisation.

It is a shame to be generating only $ 15 -16 billion dollars as our GDP. Yet in the real meaning of the word, there are no reasonable government investments! Verison a communiction copmany in the US use the same amount to buy and technology company yahoo.

Roads without a comprehensive public transport, a function of active business environment in the regions, implies they remain under utilised.

A reason why Iganga - Mbale road is used to dry cassava! Mbarara – Kabale road has very few vehicle kilometres of travel as it is with Bwaise - Karuma as compared to Kampala - Malaba.

The government of Uganda is not making money and therefore has no ability to fund development projects! When mivumba clothes and vehicles are outlawed Uganda will suffer a considerable deficit and right now the shortfall in tax revenues is shockingly high.

In a word – we need Social/Public Investments, as a backward society to spur private business development. It is simple pratical economics.
