{UAH} WAKISO CITY STATUS

A YEAR AGO
Brothers and sisters, today, Minister in charge of Kampala Capital
City Authority, has tabled a Kampala Metropolitan Bill to cabinet, by
which, among others, six municipalities in Wakiso District and Greater
Kampala in general, will be created.
The bill intends to expand Kampala . however for us, in Wakiso we are
opposed to be under KCCA we agreed with Minister for Local Government
that we want municipalities and later Wakiso CITY.
TODAY
The KCCA Bill was saved by 9th parliament and will be scrutinized and
passed by 10th parliament and Kampala Metropolitan Authority is not
bad, and the President has already promised Wakiso a city status. He
said this at his public rally at Kyengera Town Council, at the peak of
presidential campaigns.
But before we achieved a city status, we should ensure that our
townships which deserve to be municipalities, are not reduced to town
councils the way it was done to Nangabo, Kyengera, Kajjansi and
Katabi.
We should also stop being under represented in parliament where over
460,000 in former Kyaddondo East, are represented by only two MPs,
over 460,000 in Busiro East are still represented by one MP, over
380,000 in Nansana Municipality are represented by one MP, over
280,000 in Makindye Ssaabagabo Municipality are
represented by one MP, over 230,000 in Busiro South, are represented by one MP.
