When is a terrorist not a terrorist but just a psychotic lunatic? The
mistake, I think, is in believing these two states to be mutually
exclusive when, of course, this could not be further from the truth.
Shouting "Allahu Akbar" does not automatically place a murderer in one
category or the other. Nor, for that matter, does not shouting that
sadly familiar phrase.

We have an atrocity in Europe every day or so now and one way or
another we are fairly clear where it comes from, even if the
authorities try desperately to persuade us otherwise — by withholding
