A YEAR AGO
In the name of God Most Gracious, Most Merciful. Praise be to God ,
the Cherisher and Sustainer of the Worlds and Havens. Among the 19
municipalities created by Parliament last evening is my own baby,
Makindye Ssaabagabo.
We had lobbied for both a municipality status and a second
constituency, but we have managed to achieve one.
As Wakiso instead of getting Wakiso, Nasana and Katabi sub counties,
rural sub counties of Gombe and Busukuma were made part of Nansana
Municipality and we lost a chance for a second constituency. We may
have had the same had Nangabo Sub County been made part of Kira
Municipality. Yet Nangabo is a potential municipality.
Conspicuously, it is only Kyaddondo District, originally spear headed
by Kyaddondo North MP, Kasule Ssebunnya that was not on the final list
for approval. We would have got a chance for a second district woman
MP.
My special tHanks to my colleagues like Ambassador Kintu Nyago, Haji
Kiyimba of Nsangi, Mamerito Mugerwa of Kira, Yona Nsubuga and to an
extent Matia Lwanga Bwanika.
l also thank District Woman MP Rose Ssenninde. l thank all MPs that
supported the motion and forgive those that were blocking it directly
and indirectly especially those so called Baganda MPs.
NOW
There is no doubt that our demand for a city status for Entebbe,
Wakiso, Nabweru and Kira is in a high gear, and it has got support
regardless of class, political affiliation, faith or ethnicity.
We still wonder why the then Local Government Minister Adolf Mwesigye
denied us three municipalities of Katabi, Kyengera, and Wakiso, and
instead imposed on us town council status at Katabi, Kajjansi,
Kyengera. Kasangati would have been a municipality, but he imposed on
its a town council status. Unfortunately, parliament included Busukuma
and Gombe sub counties in Nansana Municipality yet they should have
been a county on their own.
In order not to waste more time and resources, it is our right to
demand for four cities of Entebbe, Wakiso, Nabweru and Kira and where
each will have a population of not less than 500,000.
The struggle continues.
