Details have emerged of why police chief Gen Kale Kayihura fired former director police operations AIGP Haruna Isabirye from his office because of a crime preventer.
Highly placed source from Kayihura's office told us that Isabirye's troubles with Kayihura originated from a smear campaign by one of the crime preventers' from the crime preventers national secretariat in Wandegeya.
According to this source this was carefully planned move where this crime preventer who is very close to Kayihura was set up to tarnish Isabirye's image before his boss leading him into trouble.
It is indicated that this crime preventer after meeting Kayihura, he claimed that Isabirye told him during one of the police meetings that he does not work for Kayihura but for the government of Uganda.
"This crime preventer went on and said that Isabirye had told him that Kayihura's time as police chief was coming to an end and that he would soon be heading to his home town in Kanaba in Kisoro district very soon to rear goats ," source told us.
It is also reported that Kayihura after being told this crime preventer to remain seated in his office and summoned ACP Fortunate Habyara the commandant Police Professional Unit (PSU) to his office to take Isabirye's statement.
"When Habyara came, Isabirye was also summoned and when he came to IGP's office as usual he tried to salute but the furious Kayihura charged at and stopped him and he asked the crime preventer to repeat what he had told him (Kayihura)and the crime preventer did the same,"
He added" Isabirye was lost for words but Kayihura told Habyara to take the two (Isabirye and the crime preventer) and record their statements and investigate him.
"At first Isabirye thought that he was finished because he knew he was going to be suspended but he was kept in office and in the next reshuffles shortly he was replaced with Asuman Mugyenyi.
AIGP Isabirye was sent command Anti Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) dealing in preventing cattle rustling in Karamoja region with its office in Katakwi.
