{UAH} "In America, money whitens you,"

"In America, money whitens you," an older Arab Muslim man said one time.

First, this belief (or psychosis) illustrates just how perversely fixated many immigrants are with "becoming white" in America.

Second, that the "work hard and become white" narrative adopted by immigrants is still widely held.

Third, the deeply-seeded racism held by many who hold this belief drives their refusal (or inability) to see how economic upward mobility has not changed the racial status of Asian, Latino, and particularly Black Americans.

And fourth, despite the fact America will become majority-minority in 2045, that immigrants - and sometimes their children - still covet whiteness and strongly latch onto the dream of becoming white.

This view still prevails in Trump's America, where racial division and hateful rhetoric are rife, which shows just how embedded it is.

Ironically, the immigrants who hold this view will never ever be fully accepted as white by whites, ever, thus making their whole belief system around race not only obscene but ridiculous.
