Museveni promises Wakiso city status
By Yasiin Mugerwa
WAKISO- NRM presidential candidate Yoweri Museveni has pledged to
grant Wakiso District a city status so as to fast-track development in
the area.
Mr Museveni also assured Ugandans of a peaceful election and warned
citizens planning to disrupt peace that they will be crushed within a
short time.
"Uganda is strong and powerful, where will problems come from? The
people who will attempt to cause problems will be dealt with," Mr
Museveni said.
Mr Museveni told his supporters that the corrupt in his government, he
likened to rats nibbling on national resources, will be dealt with in
his new term.
The NRM candidate said the rats ate Kafumbe Mukasa Road in Kampala but
praised Kampala executive director Jenifer Musisi for a job well done.
"There is the issue of rats eating our millet in the granary but don't
worry, as the head of the home called Uganda, I cannot stop growing
millet because of the rats. I am going to get cats and poison to deal
with them," Mr Museveni said.
Addressing issues of unemployment and job creation, Mr Museveni blamed
lack of skills and promised to inject Shs500b in the new Innovation
Fund to assist jobless youth and also construct a technical institute
in every constituency in the country.
"Jobs don't come from the air, they come from wealth creation and to
create wealth, you need skills and peace," Mr Museveni said, adding
that "Our children speak good English and know how to count but they
don't have skills and jobs. Now that we have peace in the country, we
are going to addressed all these issues."
The President's pledge for government to grant Wakiso a city status
comes after he promised Arua, Mbarara and Gulu the same should he win
the coming general election.
Mr. President and NRM Government and Parlament, Wakiso city is bigger
than Kampala, Jinja, Mbale, Gulu,Arua, Fort Portral, Mbarara and
Masaka.
We are deserving for cities of Entebbe, Wakiso, Nansana and Kira, each
with a minimum of 500,000 people.
Kampala has 1.5m, Mbarara 250,000, and the rest not more than 100,000
