{UAH} Triumphant funeral for slain French priest!
The Rev Father Jacques Hamel ( 85 ) whose throat was slit seven days ago
by two Islamic terrorists in a murder that shook the entire country and beyondhe departs with all honours and tributes globally accorded him by the entire universe.
World figures including the Pope expressed deep sorrow at his brutal murder.
All over France vigils and prayers have accompanied him in his death.
At Paris's famous Notre-Dame Cathedral the Requiem Mass for him was celebrated by the Cardinal Archbishop of Paris in the presence of President François Hollande and ex-Presidents Valéry Giscard d'Estaing and Nicolas Sarkozy and an entire line-up of celebrities coming from all walks of life. Security was very tight and the police succeeded to control each one of the 7000 people who entered the vast cathedral.
Except for the terrorists whose intentions are really diabolical the murder of this old priest has helped cement that very harmonious relationship existing so amicably between France's overwhelming Christian population ( 91% ) and the 4 million Moslems ( 6%) who are very largely composed of nationals from the Arab World and those African countries where Islam is the dominant religion. Many former French territories have colossal percentages of Islam. There is no state religion in France. Catholicism is of course the dominant faith but it is recognized on a par with other religions. This policy has enabled France to give that image of a liberal society that plays a good mix wherever France is. And has helped it to champion its presence in all former territories which have all condemned the brutal murder of a humble priest . May his soul rest in peace!
