The Uganda Police Force says it appreciates the fact that the group of demonstrators protesting against the appearance of Kale Kayihura in court are respecting the law.

The group stormed the Grade 1 Magistrates Court in Makindye yesterday where the police chief was expected to appear on torture charges.

Polly Namaye, the deputy Press and Public Relations, lauded the group for
complying with the requirement of the POM Act (Section 5) of notifying the Police so as to obtain guidance and security during the demonstration.

"The demonstrators through a peaceful demonstration were seeking to show their support of the IGP in relation to the private prosecution brought against him and other Police officers at the court."

She said, however, Acts of intolerance and over handedness that were depicted through blocking routes and barring entry into the court is not condoned.

Court will sit again to hear this case on 29.08.2016.
