Wedding Bombing is the Latest in a
Series of Deadly Terror Attacks in Turkey
A bombing on Saturday night at a Kurdish wedding in Gaziantep, a Turkish town near the Syrian border, was one of the deadliest in a string of terrorist attacks that have struck Turkey. Since June 2015, Kurdish and Islamic State militants have staged at least 15 major attacks across Turkey, killing more than 330 people.

The Islamic State has not claimed responsibility for any attacks in Turkey, but government officials have linked the group to at least six bombings. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan blamed the Islamic State for Saturday's attack, which killed more than 50 people.
Kurdish militants have been in armed conflict with the Turkish government for decades. They attack security forces in southeastern Turkey almost daily, and are increasingly shifting to attacks in urban areas.
While the Kurdish attacks have mainly targeted the police and members of the military, the Islamic State attacks have mostly struck at civilians in popular places.

On June 28, terrorists attacked Turkey's largest airport, killing 44 people. A Turkish government official said that shortly before 10 p.m., the police fired on two attackers at the entryway to Ataturk airport's international terminal in an attempt to stop them from reaching a security checkpoint.
The two attackers then blew themselves up, the official said. A third attacker detonated explosives in the parking lot, another official said.
