SV: {UAH} Uganda: MP Nambooze Starts Anti Alcohol Drinking Campaign

Jadwong Ndugu KIPENJI,
FIRST, I must agree with you bcos Law is Law personal strength to reject something like Alcohol cannot be done by Law. Several years ago, say in 1978 to 1982 I used to drink Alcohol but on 25 December 1982 I told my late father and my families that from today I shall not drink Alcohol.
SECOND, from that day till tomorrow I have never touch or taste any glass of Alcohol. I think, it had been myself who became the Law and the Law in the book became obsolete! This is what I always preach to my children that they must be Law by themselves as far as Alcohol drinking is concern!

Hmmmmmmmmm! Laws do not change people. It is people that change others.
It is akin to the Gun laws.Guns per se do not kill except when in the hands of people
with criminal predisposition who get gaga and start firing them at others indiscriminately.
So,before these laws can be made or enacted, hoi polloi need to have all the information
they must know with regards to alcohol, its' use and misuse, its effects blah blah blah and
may be using negative publicity to pass the bad effects of alcohol to people.
When hoi polloi is duly informed then we can think about laws.
We should never make laws without knowing what the issue with alcohol really is.
Kipenji

Members of Parliament led by Mukono Municipality MP, Betty Nambooze, have launched a campaign to curb excessive consumption of alcohol.
Speaking at the launch this morning, Ms Nambooze said she was inspired to start the campaign, which she wants to culminate into a law to be passed by Parliament. Her remark was prompted by a resident who asked her to bring a law that will help him stop drinking.
Nambooze said her campaign is aimed at helping young people live responsible lives.
"I am also an alcohol drinker and I have just found out that I am a risk drinker because on a particular day I can take more than four units. We are not after those people who take alcohol responsibly or use it as culture. We just don't want our young people to get addicted and live by alcohol," she said.
Ms Nambooze was joined at the launch by more than eight MPs. The campaign is facilitated by several civil society organizations led by Uganda Alcohol Policy Alliance.
