Hannity and National Review's Jonah Goldberg get into epic Twitter battle

The running feud between Fox News' Sean Hannity and National Review's Jonah Goldberg exploded onto Twitter early Wednesday morning, as the media figures traded a series of rapid-fire barbs over the lack of lock-step Republican unity behind Donald Trump.

Goldberg compared Hannity last Saturday to a "puppy barking to protect its master from a parked car or a small child vowing to vanquish all of his enemies with his plastic sword" in his denunciations of the likes of National Review, Glenn Beck and Ted Cruz for failing to fall in line behind the Republican presidential nominee.

Hannity fired back during his radio show Tuesday,warning Goldberg that if he "aid[s] and abet[s] Hillary, and you keep trashing Trump and you keep taking his views out of context as I've watched you and others do, and you keep calling me a puppy, and keep calling me saying I'm on tirades, it doesn't deal with this substantive issue, and that is Hillary's going to appoint Ruth Bader Ginsburg or worse, Sonia Sotomayor or worse, to the Supreme Court."

The latest Twitter altercation began with Hannity responding to Goldberg, who shared an article about comedian Amy Schumer declaring that she would move to Spain if Trump is elected president.

"I can't stand either candidate, but I ain't leaving because I love my country. Never understood this crap," Goldberg tweeted, to which Hannity responded, "Ok Jonah, u called me a puppy dog and my comments about you a tirade. Not at all. But if HRC is elected u own it."

After Hannity defended the line, Goldberg responded mockingly, "The puppy dog part is that you think that is super scary. 'Oh noes Hannity is holding me responsible!'"

"Your choice from early on has been the man you've been advising behind the scenes," Goldberg wrote, working his way through a deluge of tweets from Hannity.

Hannity, up and tweeting again Wednesday, responded, "Watch my posted CPAC comments from 2015 and 2016 and maybe u will stop lying Mr journalist"

"Yeah I'll pass on that Sean. But I did reread this where you admit to advising Trump," Goldberg tweeted, linking to a New York Times article.

"Of course you will pass on watching the truth about my coverage, especially when you can 'trust' the NYTimes," Hannity shot back.

Goldberg tweeted back: "LOL! Sean that game is played. They quote you. Instead you want me to take your word for something in a CPAC speech."

Hannity, continuing much of the same argument laid out in his radio show, laid out the election as a binary choice late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning.

"Sean, Trump brags how he breaks promises for his own ends. Brags about it. Yet you trust him. I wonder why?" Goldberg responded.

"Pretty much, yeah," Goldberg responded to this tweet.

After more back and forth Wednesday morning, Hannity tried to put an end to the Twitter fight with another warning.

"My final tweet, as I have real work to do. If you choose to sabotage DT and HRC wins, then u will OWN the damage!" Hannity wrote.

"I've got work too. But you were up all night tweeting at me while I was asleep, so I might need to catch up," Goldberg responded.

Goldberg then took notice after Hannity kept tweeting, responding to a National Journal editor's tweet about his interview with Julian Assange the previous night.
