Poor health education to blame for such behaviour. Likely, the nurse educator illustrated how to use the condoms using her hand, so the onlookers thought that is the best way to do it.

In 1991 we attended a UN seminar on HIV/AIDS awareness campaign to end the spread . One manager asked the UN Technical Advisor why they make such a small thing (condom) yet HIV?AIDS can be acquired through so many ways. He was asked to suggest what could be done. His answer was that there should be an overall condom, covering the entire body. It was apparent that the manager had not understood how HIV/AIDS was spread. We took time to explain to our colleague and he finally understood; we used bogoya to insert in the condom etc. That old manager was a man of a kind; he wanted a full demonstration with one female manager in attendance; everyone else shouted, "No, no, Mr. we cannot do that!"  We just wondered what he would have told his workers when he returned had we not clarified the issue.
