{UAH} 1.Londoner's Diary: Has Amal gone off Assange due to Hillary?

Moses Nekyon/WBK/Edward P'Ojim/Edward Irundrua,

Has Hilary Clinton ordered  Julian Assange to drop his UK lawyer? That's what the press is speculating here below, because the Clooneys are said to pal with the Clintons, and Assange seems to be doing the dirty on Hilary with his leaks.

Did Amal sack Assange? Or did Assange sack Amal?  Legal news website Law.com reported that it sent a request to the WikiLeaks press office asking about Amal Clooney's current status in relation to Julian Assange's case. Assange's representative sent back a list of nine legal eagles on the team. Clooney's name was not on it.

Clooney, then Alamuddin, was a key member of Assange's counsel in 2012 when the Swedish government sought to extradite him. She made visits to his Knightsbridge bolthole at least up until 2014. Assange's case is still listed on Clooney's impressive CV on her online profile at Doughty Street Chambers, but the apparent Assange split came with no fanfare.

WikiLeaks has so far declined to comment. Meanwhile Doughty Street says it is "unable to confirm" whether this is correct at the moment.

One question: is it Hillary Clinton who may be the wedge in this formidable working relationship? Clooney and her husband, George, have been notable backers of Clinton's presidential campaign, even hosting a benefit in the spring. By contrast, Assange's WikiLeaks has been releasing private emails from Clinton's campaign team, aiming to scupper her presidential bid, and leading to the Ecuadorian Embassy cutting his internet access. "The government of Ecuador respects the principle of non-intervention in the internal affairs of other states," an official statement reads. "It does not interfere in external electoral processes, nor does it favour any particular candidate."

If Clooney has chosen Clinton over Assange, then it's a striking statement of loyalty. But could it be a smart move for a power couple who some consider to be a natural fit for the White House?
