{UAH} Castel Gandolfo Palace to become a museum

Since yesterday, Saturday  ( 22/10/2016 ) the very famous pontifical summer

residence of Castel Gondolfo, some twenty kilometres from Rome, started

welcoming visitors as a Museum. This 59 hectrare estate situated in the cool

regions facing attractive Lake Albano has been the official summer residence of

the Pope for several centuries. It's the place where a Pope could seek refuge from

the excessive summer heat temperatures of Rome. Now Pope Francis who never

takes such holidays and has always loved to live a very simple life at the Vatican

has proposed it becomes a Museum to welcome visitors and tourists.

Castel Gondolfo took to another form of prestige during World War II when the great war time Pontiff, Pope Pius XII, turned it into a residence to welcome thousands of

innocent Jews fleeing Nazism. Many mothers even gave birth at Castel Gondolfo.
