The South Sudan military intelligence known as the National Security Service actively participated in forcing out the majority Nuer tribesmen from both public and private lucrative jobs in the country.
ChimpReports has exclusively obtaineddocuments of how the powerful security organ that reports directly to President Salva Kiir, covertly commanded several companies to terminate the employment of selected individuals.
The mass purging of Nuers who are the tribemates of the rebel leader Dr. Riek Machar started in early 2014 at the height of the bloody internal conflict that broke out in December 2013 and now coming to three years fighting still continues.
President Kiir who hails from the Dinka tribe fell out with Dr. Machar, triggering the conflict that immediately took ethnic lines as the two major tribes gruesomely executed revenge attacks.
As those with guns in the disintegrated SPLA (SPLA in Government and SPLA in Opposition) were openly pursuing each other, the National Security Service was stealthily carrying out a bloodless but an economically painful operation that most of its victims are now refugees in foreign countries or at the United Nation's Mission in South Sudan camps in Juba and other areas.
Most of the victims were working in oil companies, banks operating in South Sudan, airlines, Juba International Airport, Non-Governmental Organizations and others.
In one of the letters in our possession, the National Security Service on 29the April 2014 asked the management of Ethiopian Airlines, South Sudan to immediately sack Mr. Gartluak Gac Chu due to unexplained "national security" concerns.
Evidence showing South Sudan intelligence carried out an 'economic purge' against rivals
The name of an Ethiopian national Webenue Mamo was also included in the order but reliable sources told us that it was simply a cover up and the 32 years old Gartluak who is now staying in a refugee camp in Gambella, Ethiopia was the single target.
The letter that carried security reference RSS/NSS/ISB/PSD/J/14 was signed by the Internal Security Bureau's Director for Protection Division, Brig. Bor Wutchok Bor.
We contacted the Ethiopian Airlines in South Sudan manager, Mr. Jafar Hamid on Monday morning to get his comment on the development.
He simply said we contacted a wrong person literally meaning that we should have talked to the National Security Officials.
"Thanks for the message but you have contacted a wrong person as this contact for the Ethiopian Airlines in South Sudan," he said.
Our several phone calls to the South Sudan minister of Information and Broadcasting Michael Makuei and the Presidential Spokesman, Ateny Wek to get their comments on the matter were not picked or returned.
The SPLA Spokesman, Brig. Lul Ruai Koang also did not pick our calls.
This website also understands that the former Ethiopian Airlines in South Sudan manager, Mr. Alyelei Kassa resigned from his job due to constant interferences from the military intelligence organ.
Purge
Meanwhile, Dr. Khor Yien who is also a Nuer was sacked from Chinese Friendship Clinic- Juba in a similar circumstance.
Dr. Khor a Chinese trained surgeon is the nephew of former South Sudan minister of Foreign Affairs, Marial Benjamin.
According to sources in Juba, Dr. Khor was later arrested by the National Security Service operatives and no one knows his whereabouts to date – not even his powerful uncle.
This website learned that several Nuers who are strong allies of Juba administration serving in senior positions tried their best to save fellow tribesmen but their efforts were simply thwarted by junior Dinka officers who turned out to be wielding more influence.
The Director General of National Security Bureau in charge of external security, Brig. Thomas Duol and the deputy director internal security in charge of finance, Mr. Gatluak Kuony Nyang attempted to intervene in several occasions all in vain.
