Seven things you didn't know about Betty Kamya

Early this year Betty kamya was appointed by president Yoweri Museveni as the minister for Kampala replacing Frank Tumwebaze. Eversince her appointment, she has been at loggerheads with the city lord mayor Erias Lukwago especially on issues concerning Kampala, the recent one being the clash over street vendors.

But how much do you know her?

Here the things you didn't know about Kamya;
1) Betty Namisango Kamya is the fourth born out of nine children. She was born on 30th November 1955 in Nakuru, Kenya to Margaret Wairimu Kamya, a Kenyan (Kikuyu) mother and George Wilson Kamya, a Ugandan (muganda) father.

2) At 6 years of age, Kamya's family relocated to Uganda and she was raised up a stunt Anglican christian, not forgetting Buganda culture.

3) She attended Mackay memorial school, St Helen's primary school for her primary education, Wanyange girls school and Kings College Buddo for her secondary and then Makerere University where she graduated with a degree in commerce, majoring in marketing.

4) She is a single mother, her husband Spencer Patrick Turwomwe passed on in 2003 leaving her with six children.

5) Her first job was at Uganda Breweries limited where she was the promotions and marketing manager. She later joined Uganda Wildlife Educational centre (UWEC) where she acted as the Executive Director before joining active politics.

6) In 2006 she was elected as member of parliament for Rubaga North constituency on FDC flagship.

In 2007 she left FDC to form her own party, Uganda Federal Alliance (UFA) which agitated for federalism in Uganda.

7) In 2011 she contested for the presidency of Uganda where she managed to be number five out of the eight contestants.
