Thanx for allowing me to post these very important documents to members.
Briefly,
Today, November 4, is the 52nd anniversary of the Abagangaizi of Buyaga and
Bugangaizi counties won their freedom from Buganda colonialism. The
struggle to get the seven counties out of Buganda, which got them as a
result of the illegal Buganda 1900 Agreement, has been on-going since that
time.
It cost blood, jail terms, and destruction of properties.
Joseph Mujoobe Kazairwe, my late father, spent five years in jail. Many
people on both sides were killed.
The British, and Baganda kingdoms, had vowed, officially, since 1900, that
not a single inch of these counties would be removed from Buganda and
returned to Bunyoro-Kitara. When powers like United kingdom, and Buganda,
vow like that, it takes some crazy people to fight such powers.
Banyoro became crazy, formed fighting groups, like the Nyangire Rebellion,
and Mubende Banyoro Commitee, and founght, since 1900, and won the
sympathies of the bBritish Government who, just before indepdencein 1962,
made sure the LONDON LANCASTER HOUSE CONSTITUTIONAL CONFERENCE decreed that
let there be referendum in only two of the seven counties.
The Banyoro stepped up miitary campaign and won the referendum on November
4, 1964.
This is the day Banyoro are celebrating today.
On my part, my most important contribution tp the celebrations I have
written two very important books to mark the day. One is, OKUZAARWA KWA
KIBAALE, KAKUMIRO NA KAGADI DISTRICTS.....that is, THE BIRTH OF KIBAALE,
KAKUMIRO AND KAGADI DISTRICTS.
It narrates the history of the birth of these three districts, which were
formerly one district called Kibaale. Its an important part of not only
Bunyoro-Kitara history, but of Uganda as a whole. This is the history of
the Lost Counties which very nearly caused the British to postpone giving
indepndence to Uganda in 1962.
The second book to mark the November 4, Abagangaizi 52 years of freedom is
