KAMPALA.

A group of 77 war claimants have sued a city lawyer seeking to recover more than Shs331 million the government paid him on their behalf.

They contend that Mr Krispus Ayena Odongo of Ayena-Odongo Company Advocates represented residents of Adyeda Farm in Loro formerly in Lira District in a 2003 case where the High Court awarded them damages and costs of the case. The complainants sued government after their land was taken over by the army in 1991 to create Loro Barracks in Lira. 
The war survivors contend that with Mr Odongo as their lawyer, they entered an agreement with the government and the Attorney General undertook to pay them Shs454,958,540 as final settlement of the suit.

They say they discovered the money had been paid to Mr Odongo in July 2016. They now want court to compel Mr Odongo to pay the said money with interest of more than 25 per cent per year since 2009 and general damages at 25 per cent interest from the date of judgment.

Mr Odongo denies allegations of fraud and contends that he has been paying the claimants upon proof of their identities.
