MUBS want to Secede from Makerere University, but they are confused how.
It was revealed yet again yesterday. MUBS staff at their presser issued other threats to secede from Makerere University main campus. MUBS is Makerere University Business School.
Literally, you can think MUBS is an autonomous institution. Think of it. If MUBS was part of Makerere University, why are they not closed? They can only shout about it. So, prima-facie MUBS is an independent institution, it knows a little or nothing about Makerere University. They operate alone.
But this is what it is. The NCHE (National Council for Higher Education) website is an accreditation hub. MUBS is not in public universities or private universities on this site. That will change your attitude towards the independence MUBS has over Makerere University.
This is basically the problem. The chairperson of MUBS academic staff Arthur Ahimbisibwe made it clear yesterday. The MUBS staff is confused of what their next step should be. Arthur on a press conference yesterday said, they want to become an independent institution. You can say, they want to appear on the NCHE Public and Private universities list.
He further said, they don't want to become a Degree awarding institution, they want degrees to be awarded by Makerere on their own. This is what is confusing, it is something hard to feed on.
MUBS at back of their minds understand that when they detach their academic activities from Makerere University, they will loose everything they have at hand.
Talk of funds. Talk of student enrollment. Talk of donations. Talk of the Makerere University name. Talk of premises. Talk of accreditation. All these would be no more if MUBS continued with their decision to secede from the ultimate of universities.
At first, staff at MUBS didn't fact-check these things. Whoever was carrying out the design process for the secession would have to repent such sins. The filthy lies.--
