{UAH} Overseas Jobs for Defiant Makerere U Professors & Lecturers

Dear Professors & Lecturers:

I have learned with great concern the news that the Minister of Education, Mrs, Janet Museveni has ordered that you return your work vehicles. This action is not good for our great University, especially for those of you who are engaged in research activities and field works within and outside Kampala. I know they are trying to control your movements because they know you are poor and depend on their mercies. Hon. Minister Janet Museveni, you really have bad advisors!!!! You cannot do this.

Here is My suggestion and solution:

Since the government doesn't want to pay you what you are worth (compared to Rwanda, TZ, Kenya etc), I suggest you hand over those vehicles, be free and begin to aggressively search for jobs overseas. There are plenty of teaching and research jobs available in the USA, U.K, Canada, Germany, France, Sweden, Middle East, Australia, African continent,  etc. All they need is your skills and you do have them. They will pay you what you are worth!!!

For those of you interested in applying for jobs in the US, please send me your CVs to: mogwal444@hotmail.com. I will personally help you with your job search from this end. I am asking my fellow Ugandans living in U.K and other foreign countries to do the same. Lets save these brains please. I cannot afford to see these great Professors & Lecturers get wasted. Developed countries like America needs you bad!!! I am copying this letter to the appropriate offices in Washington D.C, and other organizations for grants and other considerations, as well as to the US Embassy in kampala to be prepared to issue you traveling visas to those of you who will get jobs faster. Don't waste your time trying to fight this government. They don't care about education. You will not win by going defiant. See what happened to Dr. KB.

Professors & lectures in the following fields are strongly encouraged to submit their CVs with a brief one page letter telling me what you want to do:

  • Medical fields
  • Engineering
  • Architecture
  • Agriculture/Food Science
  • Military Science
  • Science & Technology
  • Maths
  • ITC
  • Computer Science
  • Business

Graduate Students:

If you are a graduate student working on your Masters or Ph.D, I encourage you to do the same. Many American Universities and colleges will take you. Contact me for details.

Vice Chancellor Prof. John Ddumba Ssentamu:

As for you Vice Chancellor Prof. John Ddumba Ssentamu, I know you are in a tough sport! But, let our people go!!! Let them go!!! Collect the government vehicles and let our brothers and sisters go in peace!! They are great learned people and their services will for sure be appreciated elsewhere!!

To the UHA members on the ground:

Please forward this notice to: The Monitor, Chimreports, New Vision, Red Pepper, Observer, The Insider, Radio Uganda and other news media for publication.

This is not a brain drain, but an attempt to save brain wastage in Uganda.

Thanks

KAMPALA - Makerere University Vice Chancellor Prof. John Ddumba Ssentamu has said that by the close of Tuesday, he will have filed a report to the minister of education on university staff who defiantly failed to return university vehicles.

Makerere staff were directed to return vehicles by the close of business on Monday but only five complied. 370 vehicles are yet to be returned.

The university has 375 vehicles both for staff and project coordinators.

This has forced the vice chancellor to file a report as directed by education and sports minister Janet Museveni for the next action.

"I have nothing to do with this issue. I am waiting for a report from the deputy vice chancellor in charge of finance and administration Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe. I will forward it by close of today for further action," said Ssentamu.

Efforts to contact Prof. Nawangwe remained futile as he barred media from accessing him.

Prof. Ssentamu, representing the University Council, directed all staff and project coordinators to the return of the university vehicles and hand over keys since there is no operation at the institution following President Yoweri Museveni's directive to close the university last week.

"By copy of this letter, college principals are requested to take charge of this activity with assistance of the director of estates and works," he directed in a letter on Monday.
