Uganda: Five Brac Officers Held Over Murder

Lira — Five people have been detained at Lira Central Police Station in connection with the murder of a Bangladesh national, Hammed MD Maimuddin.
Maimuddin, 45, is the former area manager in charge of small enterprises for Brac Uganda, a microfinance institution.
He was found dead at Brac Uganda offices in Te-obia, Central Division, Lira Municipality in September.
Brac Uganda's service staff, Mr James Aworu, was also found unconscious in the same office.
According to the postmortem report, the Bangladesh national was strangled.
The suspects
Speaking to journalists on Monday, the North Kyoga regional police spokesperson, Mr David Ongom Mudong, confirmed five people most of whom are employees of Brac Uganda, were arrested and detained last Friday at Lira Central Police Station to help with the ongoing investigations.
"The suspects have acknowledged that they participated in the crime. They will appear in court for murder and aggravated robbery charges."
THE CASE
Crime. ln September, Mr Hammed MD Maimuddin, a Bangladesh national, was found dead at Brac Uganda offices in Te-obia, Central Division in Gulu Municipality. His passport number BL0211172 was also recovered at the scene. However, police could not ascertain the cause of is death then.
