Akena death: Acholi MPs threaten to storm Luzira to find out if Kanyamunyu certainly sleeps there

Nakawa Magistrates Court has remanded businessman, Matthew Kanyamunyu his girlfriend, Cynthia Munangwari, and his elder brother Joseph Kanyamunyu back to Luzira prison.

The trio had appeared before court for a mention of their case in which they are accused of killing child rights activist, Kenneth Akena.

However, the State Attorney, Racheal Nabwire informed court that investigations into the case were still incomplete and requested for an adjournment.

The case was adjourned to 20, 2016 as Kanyamunyu and his accomplices were returned to Luzira.

Speaking to journalists outside Court, the Kitgum Woman MP, Beatrice Anywar said they were satisfied that the suspects were being brought before Courts of law.

"Hopefully justice will take its course. We are following it very closely, my only hope is that he really sleeps in Luzira. One of these days we shall also make checks…because we don't want any 'manyanga' (foolery)," Anywar said.

This won't be the first time that legislators from Acholi sub-region will be storming secured places over Kanyanyumu. Shortly after the incident and subsequent arrest of Kanyamunyu and his girlfriend, the legislators led by Aruu County North, MP Odonga Otto, the five Members of Parliament among them Beatrice Anywar, Oketayot Lowila and Anthony Akol, stormed Jinja road police station demanding to see where Kanyamunyu was detained.

Prosecution alleges that on November 12, this year, Matthew, Munwangari, Joseph and other accomplices still at large, while on Kampala- Jinja road near Malik Car Bond, opposite Uganda Manufacturers Association offices, in Nakawa Division, "with malice aforethought caused the death of Kenneth Akena".

Akena was buried last month in Kitgum District, an area represented by Anywar in parliament.
