{UAH} The Casey Review: a review into opportunity and integration-Gov.uk

Frank Mujabi,

Here is the UK government commissioned Study and Report on Integration. I must say, it is a bit sad to note that increasingly, parallel communities are beginning to emerge in the country and this has been made worse by the increase in the muslim percentage of the population. It is truly shocking that in the UK that I have lived in now for close to 30 years, there are still some Muslims who believe the  UK is a 75% muslim country, and the reason they do so is because they live in segregated communities, with their own faith schools, corner shops and mosques and don't venture out of their enclave and so have no clue about what is outside in the rest of their town or city. All their information is garnered from what they are told in the mosque or in the faith school.

Moses Nekyon/Alan Barigye, the USA is probably the grandmother of racial segregation. Is this still the case?

I will tell you a story of my experience. When I worked  in the Philippines, for about 3 months, I was based in the northern part of the country, and so used to visit two cities that sprung up to support the American bases. The USA has about 5 military bases in the Philippines, all of them off shore on giant carrier ships about 5 miles off the shores serving all of its strategic interests in the Asia, the Pacific and the South China Seas. It is said the Philippines has the largest concentration of Americans anywhere else in the world, outside of the USA itself,  as at any one moment in time, there are at least 30,000 American service men and women in these bases. They are not supposed to roam around on land, but those not on duty are allowed to go to the main land for social and entertainment purposes. As a result, two huge cities, one called Olongapo, the other Angeles, sprung up, their economies based entirely on the bar/restaurant, entertainment and of course the  sex industry. I occasionaly visited these two cities and what I noticed was very disturbing. Nearly all the bars are aimed at the American servicemen, so there are hardly any Filipino men around, except only in the backwaters or as waiters or menial workers, but hundreds of women selling themselves. Now, the businesses in Olongapo and Angeles became a mirror image of the USA. There were "Black Only" establishments, and "White Only" establishments. Black American soldiers would go to the black establishments and the vice versa the white ones. You never got any single integrated bar where black and white Americans socialized together .I found this truly disturbing- because these are soldiers living in the same ship that they will all return to after their nights of debauchery!!! Strange enough, even the Filipino girls had picked up this American segregationist attitude, with some saying they only go out with black men, and others, with white men.
