Kabale Man Shot While Raping a Lunatic Woman

Police in Kabale have shot dead a yet to be identified man after he was found raping a mentally ill woman. The incident occurred at about 4am on Saturday at Kabale Housing Estate along Bwankosa Street in Central Division, Kabale Municipality.

Police in Kabale have shot dead a yet to be identified man after he was found raping a mentally ill woman.
The incident occurred at about 4am on Saturday at Kabale Housing Estate along Bwankosa Street in Central Division, Kabale Municipality.
A police officer who was on a night duty told URN on condition of anonymity that they were alerted by the alarm of the victim who was screaming for help.
On reaching the scene, the suspect who is believed to be in his 20s, was holding the woman down. The woman, whose names are withheld, is believed to be 45 years.
The suspect reportedly tried to fight the police officers which resulted in one of them opening and shooting him in the stomach. He died while being rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital.
Elly Maate, the police spokesperson for Kigezi Region confirms the shooting saying that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
Maate says that many rolls of marijuana were found at the scene of crime while others were found in the pockets of the deceased, an indication that he could have been under the influence of drugs.
Maate says that the body of the deceased is now at Kabale Regional Hospital Mortuary for postmortem.
He adds that a police officer who shot the deceased will not be blamed since he acted in self-defence.

Cases of drug abuse especially smoking opium are high in Kabale Municipality which has resulted into an increase in crimes. A week ago, police arrested eight people during an operation against drug abuse. Those arrested were found with many rolls of opium.
