EU officials 'essential' Kenya trip costing taxpayer £700,000 - safari included
A BEVY of 136 European Union (EU) officials are spending nearly €1million on a trip to far-flung Kenya - which includes a visit to a health facility and a helicopter safari ride.

The team, including 78 MEPs and 31 interpreters, are to jet off for five-days to Nairobi next Saturday to take part in the African Caribbean Pacific-European UnionJoint Parliamentary Assembly (ACP-EU), which includes 78 African, Pacific and Caribbean states alongside the EU.
The European Parliament's financial statement for the trip to a country where more than half the population lives below the breadline, reveals the total budget is £735,354 with £193,042 going towards interpreters, documents seen by Politico reveal.
Budgets for trips are estimated according to the maximum number of possible participants, with 50 MEPs so far having signed up.
