KAMPALA- A police detective who examined the murder scene where businessman Andrew Kananura alias Desh allegedly murdered his worker, told High Court yesterday that he was transferred to another station before he processed the evidence he retrieved from the spot.

Detective Corporal Samary Angaia, a Scenes of Crime Officer (SOCO), was testifying as the eighth state witness in the trial presided over by Justice Joseph Murangira.

Mr Desh is facing murder charges alongside his brother Raymond Kananura, Cyrus Maganda, Samuel Muzulewa and Jacob Onyango who are jointly accused of beating one Badru Kateregga to death in the wee hours of September 30, 2012.

Kateregga was a worker at Desh's Panamera Bar in Naguru, a Kampala suburb near Lugogo Bypass.
Detective Angaia said on the fateful day, he was called by the Deputy Police Commander, Mr Robert Walugembe telling to go to a murder scene at Desh¹s Panamera Bar.

"I went there in a police patrol car. Upon reaching, I was introduced to the scene by a number of police officers who walked me through it."

"That is when I saw a dead body which was lying on its back in a store-like structure at the bar premises. I examined the scene and even took some photos of the scene and the body," Mr Angaia testified.

Testifies
"However, before I could process the photos into hard copies, I was transferred from Kira Road Police Station. Before leaving, I had to hand over the camera I was using to another SOCO, who had come in to replace me," he added.

Mr Angaia said he returned to Kira Road Police Station to process the crime scene photos last week on January 6, 2017 after receiving court summons requiring him to testify.

He said he found most of the shots he took at the scene with the camera, were missing from the police data computer, so he printed out the few he found.
Mr Angaia said while taking the photos, he noticed that car tyres had been placed next to the dead body, barring it from being viewed properly, so he had to take some close shots showing that action.

The detective said he took other shots viewing the whole crime scene. He said Desh and Raymond, among other people, were present at the scene.
