{UAH} LIBERATION WEEK SERIES ON BUKEDDE I AND URBAN TVS

46TH ANNIVERSARY OF 1971 COUP D'ETAT
Brothers and sisters, today at 3.45 pm , it will be 46 years ever
since Warrant Officer l Sam Wilfred Aswa announced the Uganda Armed
Forces take over government from Milton Obote and handed over to Idi
Amin.
Most people cerebrated Obote's fall but others like the late Mwalimu
Julius Nyerere called it 'jumping from a frying pan (Obote) to fire.'
But peole reacted saying that "It was no longer an army coup but a
people's coup."
The army promised a return to civilian rule in five years but by then
the elders of North Kigezi under Mzee Kikira with legal guidance from
a young John Patrick Amama Mbabazi, had proposed Amin to rule for life
, which Defence Council endorsed until he was toppled in 1979 by
Tanzanian People's Defence Forces and Ugandan exiles including
President Yoweri Museveni.
Was Amama, who was also a FRONASA coordinator, deliberately wanted to
mislead Amin, or he was just an AGIP (Any Government In Power)?
What lessons? We have seen coups in 1966, 1971, 1979, 1980, 1985,
civil wars before and after 1986 NRM/NRA liberation war, civil strive
etc and we don't need others. Let's remain committed to for free and
fair elections and we accept the outcome so long as it is not like
2015 NRM party primaries where l hear Dr. Tanga Odoi and his aides
owned a printing machine of ballot papers.
