A Ugandan barber shop owner was shot and killed by robbers in Delft on Wednesday.
The incident happened just 100m from the Delft Police Station in Main Road.
Waleed Mohamed, 32, was attacked by three armed men who had just robbed the hardware store next door.
Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut says the incident occurred after 2pm.
"It is believed that he was accosted by three males attempting to rob him after they had just robbed the hardware store next door to his barber shop," says Traut.
"The deceased grabbed the firearm-wielding man and a scuffle unfolded.
"A shot went off leaving the 32-year-old Ugandan male dead.
"The suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash that was taken from the hardware store and are yet to be arrested."
A friend of Waleed, who asked not to be identified, says it's not the first time the men had robbed him.
"They regularly robbed him but I think it was the first time he tried to resist, and they killed him," says the man.
"He has a wife, children, a father and mother who depend on him.
"I'm also disappointed with police, the police station is 100m away but they took an hour to arrive. If they had come earlier they would have caught the killers."
Traut says cases of murder and business robbery have been opened. Anyone with information is requested to contact Detective Sergeant Vuyisile Tshambo on 021 954 9000
