STARTING DATE: July 1, 2017 or as negotiated. RESPONSIBILITIES: This is a nine-month, tenure-track position in rural sociology with a 65% research and 35% teaching responsibility and with the possibility of a joint-appointment in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. The successful applicant will be expected to develop a nationally and internationally recognized research program related to gender and agriculture. Research topics may focus on women and farming, gender and environmental sustainability, international development, gender and food security, gender and agricultural policies or related topics. The successful candidate will be expected to work in multi-disciplinary teams and secure external funding. Preference will be given to candidates with the potential to collaborate on outreach programs for women farmers. Teaching expectations will be three courses per year. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses on topics such as gender and agriculture, sociology of agriculture, gender and environment, global feminisms, and international development at both the undergraduate and graduate level. The candidate will have the opportunity to advise graduate students in Rural Sociology and the dual-title Rural Sociology graduate programs with Women's Studies, International Agriculture and Development, Demography, and Human Dimensions of Natural Resources and the Environment. QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in rural sociology, sociology, women's and gender studies, or related social science field. The ability to engage professionally with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students across the university and community is required. Although the person in this position will not have a formal extension appointment, preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated success or potential for collaboration on outreach programs for women farmers domestically and/or internationally.
