{UAH} Mr. President Economy will collapse unless
Uganda government should get involved in reorganising society and stop senseless reliance on the private sector (Kampala wakiso estate developers) where people have basically no capacity to investment and run medium and large scale projects.
Uganda has about 6 construction projects
1. Three dam construction
2. One bridge
3. Several major road works including Entebbe express way
4. Standard Gauge Railway that is yet to come on stream
5. Jinja express way approved
– you can assume these projects are essentially key to the economy but I will argue these projects are dismal in terms of job creation and what they contribute to the economy. Uganda needs more than 200 projects in that range. The above projects amount to a fraction of what facebook earned last year!
That is why urbanisation is key to grow the economy
If you have lived in a dynamic economy your will realize – the above projects, those underway and those in the pipeline will contribute less to job creation and basically little to the production sector.
I have suggested housing – this is a sustainable state investment that can create five times more jobs that all the projects above; plumbers, masonry, brick layers, steel, electricians, communication engineers etc
There is need for Public Transport to lower mobility for passengers, trade, exporters etc. This is a huge investment as we understand it since it engages motor mechanics, economist, logistics and transport planners.
How many people are employed in public transport in London or New York alone?
Public Health can be financed through patient contribution of just 8000-15000 shs per visit. That money per patient could finance the entire healthcare medical bill
Standardisation will take away grants (corruptly given to sham school owners) to school run by politicians in local government – moreover if the government started a feeding strategy for school the money will go to farmers and food processors
All the above will boost disposable incomes of millions of Ugandans
Agriculture is receding – these are o sustainable markets UNLESS the government supports fresh food exporters and processors with cheap cargo planes to the European and Middle East Markets – Transport sectors (Uganda airlines) once again. Note fish markets has collapsed(over fishing) and South Sudan security issues.--
