{UAH} Mysticism of numbers pervades Maj Gen Elwelu

The senior officer who proudly commanded the attack on the palace of Omusinga Iyuwene Mumbere last year is a man destined for his job.

Maj. Gen. Peter Elwelu, 51 years old, was born in 1966. Fatefully, 1966 is when then President, Milton Obote, ordered his troops, led by Col. Amin Dada, to overrun the Lubiri of Kabaka Muteesa II of Buganda.

Elwelu joined the army in 1986 and carried out the attack on Omusinga's palace in 2016.

2006 is when i met Elwelu at the home of one senior politician. We had a meal of long grain rice and chicken with passion fruit juice-the three of us. The politician was all praises for Elwelu's war exploits saying he had given Kony a bloody nose, among other bouts of honour.

I guess in 1996, Elwelu he was stoking the furnace over a staccato of gunfire somewhere in the jungles of Sudan or Northern Uganda.

However, there is no sign that 1971 will play out again.
