{UAH} Andrew Kayiira remembered, family asks government to recognise his contribution to Uganda -

The family of the late energy minister and anti-Obote rebel fighter, Dr. Andrew Lutakoome Kayiira, has called upon government to remember the good work of their father and to give assistance to their family.
Kayiira's family made the call for his recognition during a memorial mass, held at Rubaga cathedral on Wednesday, for Kayiira who was shoot dead in 1987, .
During the mass, the pulpit at Rubaga cathedral turned into a political platform as Kayiira's family and Democratic Party officials converged to honour Kayiira.
David Kayiira Lutakome, the late Kayiira's son, while speaking on behalf of the Kayiira family, faulted government for ignoring the family after their father was slain. He also wondered why former fighters of the Uganda Freedom Movement, a guerilla force commanded by Kayiira have never been paid their settlement packages.
On March 6, 1987, towards midnight, Kayiira was murdered at the home of Henry Gombya who was his friend and BBC stringer. He had just been released from Luzira prisons on treason charges which government dropped.
Shortly after he was shot, two Scotland Yard officers were hired to probe his death and they handed a report to government, which has never seen the light of day
