Sixty-five percent of Americans believe an independent prosecutor should be appointed to handle the investigation into contacts between Russia and campaign associates of President Trump, a new CNN/ORC poll reveals.

Here are the highlights of the poll:

47 percent of Republicans support a special prosecutor, compared to 81 percent of Democrats.
55 percent of all those polled say they are at least somewhat concerned about reports that people associated with Trump's campaign had contact with suspected Russian operatives, while 45 percent were not.
51 percent of Republicans say it is at least somewhat likely Russia attempted to influence the presidential elections, compared to 87 percent of Democrats.
45 percent of those surveyed approve of Trump's handling of the presidency, compared to 52 percent who disapprove.
"The steady stream of news about investigations into those contacts doesn't appear to have affected President Donald Trump's approval rating, which ticked up only one percentage point — 44 percent to 45 percent — from January," CNN noted.

Here is how the rest of the poll breaks down:

47 percent of those polled had a favorable view of Vice President Mike Pence, compared to 37 percent who did not.
49 percent believe Trump's policies will move the U.S. in the right direction, while 50 percent disagree.
34 percent call Russia a "very serious threat."
The CNN/ORC Poll was conducted March 1-4 among a random national sample of 1,025 adults. Results have a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points
