Pic shows: Trial of nine Iraqi migrants accused of having gang raped a tourist during a New Year's Eve party.nnBy Koen BerghuisnnNine Iraqi men accused of the horrific New Year¿s Eve gang rape of a single woman have appeared in court.nnSickening details were made public by prosecutors as the trial into the alleged attack began this week in Vienna, Austria.nnIt is alleged the victim, identified only as a 28-year-old German teacher Julia S. due to local privacy laws, was celebrating the turn of the New Year with a Viennese friend.nnShe was drinking with her in a bar when at 2am four of the Iraqis joined the two women at the table with a bottle of vodka. It is claimed she was feeling sick and was then taken back to a flat in the Leopoldstadt neighbourhood where her horrific ordeal began.nnProsecutor Karina Fehringer said the men went out looking for a woman to rape on the fateful night.nnWhen the four dragged her home, five other men were waiting to pounce.nnIt was heard they had chucked out all female family members also living at the property so they could carry out the horrific attack in peace.nnThe migrants, all aged between 23 and 47 years old, then stripped the unconscious woman.nnAll nine allegedly took turns raping her before they then kicked her out the flat and left her at a tram stop.nnShe was found by passersby crying and shaking who then called the police and her ordeal was reported to officers.nnShe told police she had woken up on a double bed with strange men hanging over her. She was conscious for some of the gang rape before being chucked out.nnOfficers then took sperm and DNA samples which have matched up to the men, according to the prosecution. They also used her mobile phone to ascertain where she had been.nnThe eldest perpetrator is claimed to have said he had slept with the woman and helped her out in the morning.nnSome others admitted that they had had sex with the 28-year-old, but that she had wanted it.nnOne is alleged to have said: "What exactly I did with her, I do not want to talk about. The act is not just forbidden in Austria, but also in Iraq, and I am sorry for the deed, and if I had not been drunk I would not have done it.nn"I am very embarrassed, also in front of my family, we all made a big mistake, but I tell it frankly and honestly that nobody has forced the victim or prevented her from leaving the flat."nnThe victim is said to have been heavily traumatised after the gang rape and had to quit her job because she could not handle the pressure. She has been diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder and depression.nnThe trial continues and is due to be concluded in the first week of March.nn(ends)

An Austrian court has found eight Iraqi nationals of guilty of gang-raping a German tourist and has given them jail sentences of between nine and 13 years.

The court on Thursday dismissed charges against a ninth suspect.

A court statement said that the victim – a 28-year old woman who was raped on New Year's Eve – has been awarded €25,000 in damages.

The statement says that both the prosecution and defence lawyers are appealing the decision.

The Iraqis came to Austria as migrants between May and December 2015.

Five of them were subsequently given refugee status.
