{UAH} George Okello: Museveni in Dokolo Today
Georgie,
The one you like to call 'Kayibanda' has been in your Dokolo town today, which was the venue for Ugandan element of the International Women's Day.
Boy the place looks great, with all those locals and outsiders flocking in, and I even saw pupils of your former school Angwecibange Primary School beautifully marching, on TV.
Here is what the guy you hate said:
"In my little audit about Dokolo, there are three or four things the government did which is visible; you have good tarmac roads in the district whether you are coming from Soroti or Lira direction into here; you have an increased number of Primary and Secondary schools, good number of Centre 3s and 4s; the infrastructure of the town and district headquarters have improved and nearly every adult has a mobile phone, you have got electricity which is good…Three things will make Dokolo even better and will improve lives of the people. These are; improved and modern agriculture...we will try to attract small and medium scale industries in agro-processing to improve incomes and create jobs and thirdly to improve infrastructure that will allow tourists to visit Kangai where Kabalega and Mwanga were captured, which will also help the locals…."
Well, you may hate the guy but I have been to your home town and district and it has really improved with banks, hotels, buildings etc, though they are not benefiting very much from the transit transport business to and from South Sudan as most of these trucks prefer to stop over in Lira, Kamdini and Gulu.
And as someone who says he likes to stand with the underprivileged in society, you might be happy to know that Dokolo, which was (in)famous for producing Field Marshal John Okello (though now he would geographically belong to Alebtong), is also the only district in Uganda to elect a physically handicapped man as District Chairman.
For once let's talk real stuff about your home district and put name-calling aside:
As a chief Kyabadokolo yourself, I would like to hear your views on how best the Kabalega/Mwanga monument can be utilized for tourism. My friend Johnnie Ssempebwa of Uganda Tourism Board says they are going to put good structures on the ground to use, but the road to the place is still bad with rains cutting off some parts because of weak bridges during rainy season. Ideas?
Billie
