Kaweesi Murder Suspect Arrested En-route to DRC
Inspector General of Police General Edward Kale Kayihura has revealed that some progress is being made in the ongoing manhunt for the criminals that gunned downed Police Spokesperson AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi together with his bodyguard and driver.
The IGP Kayihura told mourners at the funeral of the slain officer in Lwengo this afternoon, that a number of suspects are already in custody in relation to the Friday murder.
Although he couldn't divulge the number or names of the people so far in custody, Kayihura stressed that unlike what many many people have been saying, he and the entire police force are not resting until justice is served .
"Some people have been saying that Kayihura is sleeping; I am not sleeping; the police force is not sleeping," he said.
"Even as we speak now, we have arrested some people. In fact this morning one of them was arrested while trying to escape to Congo (DRC).
Investigation, which commenced Friday, it is understood have attracted specialists from the US's Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).
Recently, the IGP promised that the findings of the Ugandan and foreign expert investigation officers would be made known in due course.
Media reports have also indicated that tens of other suspects have been held at different police posts including Kampala CPS in connection with the murder.
One suspect was reportedly found trying to collect clotted blood and soil from the murder scene.
Meanwhile, the IGP at the funeral unveiled plans to immortalize Felix Kaweesi — the highest ranking officer to be murdered in cold murder after Einayo Oryema who was murdered by Idi Amin in 1977.
Kayihura said plans are already underway to set up a monument and a museum as well as a police polytechnic in memory of the fallen officers.
