{UAH} Fr Jacques Hamel's beatification cause opens in France

Rev Fr Jacques Hamel, the heroic French martyr

The Pope having officially authorized the opening of the beatification process of the 86-year-old martyred French priest who fell victim to a terrorist attack in the church where he was saying Mass, the Archbishop of Rouen has now formally opened the local church inquiry in the life of the fallen priest. He was killed last year and if the process moves quickly he may be beatified in five years' time. Now the Church authorities in Rouen Archdiocese where he belonged and served are going to make a thorough study of the late priest's life and also do research in his writings and sermons and hear testimonies from  various kinds of people and then they will send the file to Rome's Congregation of the Causes of Saints which is also going to do its findings. If the scrutiny goes well the priest will be beatified without asking for a miracle because his martyrdom which has been approved as such is enough to stand for any miracle. Then from beatification he will jump to canonization as an official saint of the Roman Catholic Church. For his canonization a miracle will be requested. The Pope approved Fr Hamel's martyrdom on the ground that he was killed due to religious hatred as he was assassinated by the Djihadists in the church  where he was presiding over Mass. Another thing the Pope pointed to was the fact that the elderly priest was already on retirement but he continued to serve because the diocese lacked a sufficent number of priests. And in addition his colleague, a Congolese priest, had shortly returned home to see his mother who was suffering very much. Fr Hamel agreed with his colleague's decision and vowed to carry out the mission himself ! The Pope saw in this gesture an act of love. which stood very well hand in hand with his heroic death..
