Obama Takes A Break From Writing His Memoirs In Tahiti (Photos)

The Former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama, were snapped enjoying tropical island activities toward the end of their French Polynesian vacation.

Other vacationers in the area took pictures of the famous couple while they were swimming in the turquoise-colors waters of Mo'orea island on April 9, reports the Daily Mail. Michelle was pictured doing some paddle boarding. 

"True to his reputation, he was very relaxed," noted Tahitian station TNTV, as reported by People, which published the photos of the Obamas' vacation.

Onlookers described the couple going on a late morning excursion on a small boat that was joined by two other boats, which had Secret Service agents in them.

Even as a retired president and first lady enjoying their free time, the Obamas have a security detail with them at all times, TNTV pointed out. 

Barack Obama is writing his White House memoirs at the exclusive The Brando resort off Tahiti and is several weeks into the project. 

Michelle Obama, who has only been with him on and off while he focuses on his writing, flew out to be with him on April 7 for a few days in the sun. 

Since leaving the White House on Jan. 20, the former president has been spending most of his days resting and relaxing in exotic destinations while moving forward with his post-presidency projects. 

His first destination following the inauguration was Palm Springs, California, for some golf, followed by a visit to billionaire Richard Branson's private island in the British Virgin Islands. 

He spent a few days in Washington, D.C., in March, then jetted to his home state of Hawaii for a brief period before settling in French Polynesia to write his memoirs. 

The Brando resort is on the atoll of Tetiaroa, around 30 miles from the island of Tahiti. 

The site was a summer resort for the former kings and chiefs of Tahiti before actor Marlon Brando purchased the atoll in 1967. 

The famously private actor kept the residence inaccessible to the public for more than three decades. Following his death, his residence has been converted to an eco-friendly resort. 

Only a maximum of 84 guests can stay at the resort at a time, which has been voted as the "Best Resort in the World" by readers of Conde Nast Traveler.  

Guests typically arrive to the resort on a private plane from Tahiti, to stay in any one of the 35 beachfront villas within the resort. Each villa has one to three bedrooms, a pool and a private section of beach.

A night in a one-person bedroom villa costs around $3,000 during low season, which spans from April to June. 

Actor Leonardo DiCaprio chose to celebrate his birthday at The Brando in November 2016.
