{UAH} PRESIDENTIAL TERM LIMIT

Benin's parliament has rejected President Patrice Talon's draft bill that seeks to reduce presidential term limit from the current two to one.

The legislators who voted against the bill said there should have been a public debate

During his campaign last year, President Talon promised to reduce the presidential term limit saying two terms were a cause of "complacency".

Benin presidents can currently serve two five-year stints, and the bill wanted to shrink that to one six-year mandate
