At least three people have been detained after two people were shot Thursday on Interstate 80 in Richmond, prompting police to shut the freeway down for several hours while they investigated the incident.
A shooting Thursday afternoon on Interstate 80 in Richmond seriously injured two people and shut down all eastbound lanes of the freeway at San Pablo Avenue for hours, backing up cars for miles as traffic slowed to an extended gridlock throughout the afternoon commute.
The shooting was reported at 3:39 p.m. and closed the eastbound portion of the busy freeway just before the evening commute, said Officer Sean Wilkenfeld, a California Highway Patrol spokesman. About 9:45 p.m., the CHP said the freeway was reopened.
