{UAH} Mourners Recount Byanyima’s Truth and Justice Journey
Boniface Byanyima, the former National Chairman of the Democratic Party has been praised for standing for the truth throughout his life journey.
The story of his life was recounted as mourners from across the political divide, security agencies, cultural leaders, and family gathered at St. Paul's Cathedral Namirembe, to pay tribute to a man, who served the country as an educationist, politician, farmer and businessman, among other roles.
The 97-year-old succumbed to a stroke on Tuesday at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala. His daughter Winnie Byanyima said her father believed in truth and Justice.
"We have talked about how he talked truth to power; this was so important to him, to talk his truth and in many ways, we his children he has taught us that, every one of us knows how to raise their voice in our house…" Winnie Byanyima said.
Byanyima noted that speaking truth to power came with numerous risks and challenged government to provide the necessary freedom for people to express themselves.
