A man with a knife has been arrested by armed police outside Buckingham Palace as Scotland Yard steps up patrols amid an increased terror threat.
At least eight officers surrounded the man in the gardens next to St James's Park this morning ahead of the Queen's planned attendance at an event at St Paul's Cathedral.
The arrest came after Theresa May said a follow-up terror attack to the Manchesterbombing could be 'imminent', but Scotland Yard says they do not believe the incident is terror-related.
The arrest happened shortly before the Queen was driven from the palace for an engagement with the Duke of Edinburgh at St Paul's Cathedral.

Australian Gary Penglis was visiting London from Sydney with his partner Jan, when he saw officers pin the suspect to the ground and make a gesture to show the size of the knife recovered.
The 49-year-old flying instructor said: 'We had just gone to see the changing of the guard, but had been informed it had been cancelled for the day, we were walking around to 10 Downing Street.
'Then just behind the Queen Victoria monument the first thing I saw was officers holding a man down, around five had taken him down, I knew it was something of significance.
'A female officer called out to a colleague 'it's about this big' and held her arms out about a yard a part.
'I assumed it was knife at that stage. They held him down for a long time, it was about ten minutes, he wasn't resisting, he was quite subdued.'
The knife was put in a sealed tube by police and the man was marched away by officers

Mr Penglis added: 'About five officers were holding him down, then around five female mounted police came to move people out of the way - about 30 yards down the street.
'There was a lot of yelling from the constables and when the members of the public heard that they started moving out the way.
'It was clear it was something quite serious, they cleared the area of people, everyone on the monument and the grass moved out of the way.
'They then took him away, handcuffed in a van and started searching the area and looking in bushes and long grass to see if he had dropped anything.'
