Thingi is, most of us in the diaspora once misplaced this thinking as well until we came to live side by side with the White man only to discover they can be beaten and we could do better than them.

Lol @ Dholaman. To believe is a distinct feature of the African. Africans quickly believe in many things they don't know - esp from any White man. They think everything associated with being a White man/woman is all good.

Thingi is, most of us in the diaspora once misplaced this thinking as well until we came to live side by side with the White man only to discover they can be beaten and we could do better than them.

But back on the continent the White man - any White man - still reigns supreme. The adored and respected chief would be first to leave his royal stool for a White vagabond and hitchhiker to cool his depleted pair of buttocks.

Very true, George. Black people have taken to the wrong way to approach the Almighty. Its true the Almighty exists but Africans had their own ways of contacting him. Its also true that since time immemorial the Good Almighty has answered several of the Africa's prayers without Christianity, Islam or any modern religions.

Consider this, both Christianity and Islam are very recent religious creations. Then ask yourself, "You mean all the centuries before these religions Africans never communicated or prayed to God and you mean all these centuries he was waiting for JC and Uncle more to deliver his powers?"

In the Catholic church I learnt one thing. Majority Catholics, matter of fact, worship idols in the status that dot mission compounds. They never or don't know that those statues are merely symbols. Many even fear touching them or get close to them and given they chance they can do the aforesaid they would weep incessantly believing the have been in physical contacts with the Almighty or Mary, or JC. They even have special statues vividly standing in cemeteries where the most interesting prays often happens. It happens when a tormented or needful person sees these cemetery statues then suddenly makes and impromptu diversion to hit the bottom to pray for whatever they want of the Almighty.

But you will also be surprised that many girls have been beaten for getting water or firewood back home after taking unusually longer time to fetch them believing they went goofing around with dudes. Such girls would be innocent if only their parents or big brothers believed they stopped at the cemetery to say a prayer or two to the unavoidable statue.

Question is, if Christianity - esp the Catholic Church - can draw crowds and convers from simply parading the statue of Mary on the village gravel footpaths and if it can pin status of the same in well manicured gardens and strategic parts of their yards to attract passers by attentions, why did it condemned our ancestors doing the same via the sacred Kituba, Baoba trees, caves even Speaker Kadaga went offer sacrifices, rivers and hills?

Answer lies in with priests and reverends here in UAH. We don't need the Pope to explain. There is no differ5ence between the Baobab and the European statues. Its not only in the modern European church buildings or Mosques where God DEFINITELY answers prayers.

In fact, 99.9% religious worshippers go their places of worship to beg or deliver sometimes outrageous and mundane needs or cries for help in one way or another. Just under 0.9% got to places or worship to thank or simply praise the Almighty. They go to ASK and PLEA but not to THANK and PRAISE.

I wrote elsewhere here sometimes ago that there is room for convergence of native African manners of worship and modern religions. Now I want to strike that observation out. The two cant and will never functions together.

Finally, have you realized modern religions haven't meddled with developing a statue of the Almighty? I don't know why but they have of JC, Uncle Mo, Mary, zillions of Angels even that of great, great uncle Moses. They seem to know what exactly these people looked like.
