{UAH} President’s appointees are very disappointing

President's appointees are very disappointing

One of President Museveni's numerous advisors is under arrest for attempting to con a widow by deceiving her that he would help find her
husband's killers.

Yekoyada Nuwagaba, according to the police, asked famous traditional medicine- woman Maama Fiina for Shs 2 million, ostensibly to lead her to the killers of her husband, Maj Muhammad Kiggundu.

The same individual, the police revealed, had been on the run after he jumped bond, having been arrested earlier for alleged involvement in illicit ivory trade, an offence for which the DPP has already sanctioned charges.

That aside, in parliament this week, some MPs expressed concern that two female ministers were tarnishing the image of the presidency with their unending public dogfights.

The climax of the feud appears to be Minister of State for Lands Persis Namuganza referring to her ICT counterpart Idah Nantaba as a prostitute, something the MPs found unacceptable.

Meanwhile, at the judicial commission of inquiry on land this week, a Resident District Commissioner (RDC) was exposed after it came to light that his underhand methods had cost Uganda 600 acres of forest land. Ian Kyeyune couldn't explain how he obtained a land title in a forest reserve apart from revealing that he had lost an election and was in financial distress.

These cases, to mention just a few, augment a common criticism directed at President Museveni and his political appointees. The president doesn't seem to conduct adequate due diligence about the people he appoints to office.

This is either because he doesn't care, as long as it is politically expedient for him to appoint such individuals, or the team charged with due diligence on political appointees is incompetent and/or compromised.

For the government to function smoothly and achieve its lofty ambitions, the right people must be placed in the right places to do the right things.

Meritocracy and integrity must replace mediocrity, incompetence and impropriety. Putting square pegs in round holes, or worse, hyenas in charge of the meat, while telling Ugandans it is Kisanja Hakuna Mchezo, is a big joke.
