{UAH} Abiriga shops pistol, Kigongo rejects age limit talk

MP Abiriga

Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga says he has ordered for a pistol following threats on his life by those who hate his guts regarding the scrapping of the presidential age limit clause.

The legislator told journalists at parliament on Monday that envious NRM MPs are targeting for championing the lifting of the presidential age limit.

"I want everybody to participate and not me alone. They said that I take this thing for myself interest. This is stupid," he stated.

Abiriga cited an incident in which a randy boda boda rider nearly beat him up in Bwaise, a Kampala suburb on top of threats from central and West Nile regions.

At the rank of colonel in the army said he could easily ask President Yoweri Museveni or Chief of Defence Forces [CDF] to assign him guards.

Instead, he has resolved to move with a pistol in his car instead of carrying the big guns.

According to the MP, the said pistol will be provided by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Gen Kale Kayihura.

Kigongo speaks

Al Hajji Moses Kigongo, the National Resistance Movement-NRM party vice Chairman, says those agitating for discussion on the presidential age limit don't wish well for Uganda.

Kigongo said this while addressing the NRM PWDs delegates at Mandela National Stadium this afternoon ahead of the election of PWDs representatives to parliament on Tuesday.

He argued that the presidential age limit debate was unnecessary since leadership comes from God.

Debate on the presidential age limit came up after it emerged that a section of NRM legislators were plotting to amend article 102(b) of the Constitution, which sets the presidential age limit at 75 years.

According to Joseph Tumushabe, a social media critic, if Museveni really wants to know what Ugandans think of him let him go to the cattle corridor without escort or send there his emissaries.

He cited an introduction ceremony in Kiboga East constituency where the area MP Hon. Dr. Keefa Kiwanuka was forced to publicly declare on which side of the debate he belongs-lifting age limit or retaining it.

His refusal to declare the side he belongs to, has yielded chorused abuses from his constituents telling him never to go back to them for any political post in case he is on the side supporting lifting of age limit.

"If Kiboga {Museveni's thought strongholds} has changed to such a voice, stand prepared to watch the scenery to follow. Say no age limit removal/amendments of article 102{b}," Tumushabe said.
